Historical Photo – Reagan in Cropsey

Ronald Reagan courted an English teacher, Margaret Cleaver, of Cropsey, a Dixon High School classmate of Reagan’s and his Eureka College sweetheart. She also taught English and supervised drama productions at Cropsey High School in the 1930’s.

Mr. Maurice Cox, Fairbury, and Mrs. Eleanor Branz, Forrest, both remember the evening Reagan dropped in at play rehearsals that Margaret supervised. “We never thought then about how he’d go,” said Mrs. Branz.

Mr. Reagan and Margaret broke their engagement when Reagan went into show business. Margaret is now married to a Virginia lawyer.
